just bought shipped eggs, whats your hatch rate?

0% on peafowl eggs (14) that were shipped. Alot of money down the drain. But you know the averages when you order. I am now waiting on my creasted and silkies they are due to go into lockdown tonight. When I candled them they were doing fine and moving maybe they will make up for the peafow.......

I purchased approx 7 dozen eggs online and am having a great hatch. I'm at 36 chicks so far and they are still going. If I get a 50% hatch from shipped eggs I'm thrilled. I've only ever done shipped. I do have to say that the closer they are the better they seem to do, but that depends on the packaging. For me its all about great packaging.

Best hatch rate on shipped eggs so far is 80%. When buying eggs, there are many factors when considering hatch rate. Fertility, packaging, weather, distance of travel, and incubating methods are a few. I would suggest buying eggs from BYC members. Most likely they care more about their flock and you can get to know them and their flock before buying.

I have 30 eggs, two batches, under 4 broody hens. One hatch in 10 days, the other 20 days out. Started with more but about 3 were duds, 5 more failed week one. Question - do you all give Mareks vaccine at one day old?

Oh, eggs shipped from East coast and I am in CA. We'll see!

on shipped eggs the worst hatch rate I've got was 1 out of 29 and the best was 9 out of 18. Though once I had a hatch rate of 6 out of 10. Ehhh, that's just how it goes on shipped eggs. It's never a sure thing.

I had 22 from AR that hatched 0% and 25 or so from CA that hatch about 50%. All in the same bator. I think the batch from AR got zapped by xray. I shoot for a 10% on all shipped eggs. This was i dont get upset if only a few hatch.

Final update on Sumatra shipped eggs.

Had about 12 out of 27 that made it to lockdown. As of tonight, at 21 days, I have three chicks, three pips so far. Really poor success rate but honestly I will feel satisfied if I get 7 chicks total, as that will make my investment $10 per chicken, which I think is fair for quality stock.

Interestingly enough, I think the first three chicks out are all different colors! One is clearly black, one looks blue, and one looks like a blue splash. Here's some photos I took this evening:

I live in Texas and had 8 eggs mailed from New York and had 5 eggs hatch. That's a long drive.
