Just Bought Two 7 Day Old Chicks, Can't tell if Male or Female! I think I have one of each!

Actually yes the lighter chick has no tail feathers at all, and the darker one has a lot of tail feathers already. The feathers on the wings are equal between the two, and this morning I noticed some feathers on their neck. I can take pics and post later when I'm home from school, I can't remember which chick had the feathers on its neck.

Boys feather slower than girls generally. I am saying boy for the lighter one.

I had six Vorwerk chicks. 5 feathered in really fast and the sixth was well behind. I thought "Yippee! 5 girls and 1 boy!" Alas, no. It didn't work out that way... 4 boys, two girls and the slow one is a girl. :(

Yes unfortunately it isn't an exact science, and you will run into the occasional strain of fast feathering males. Fortunately, they are an exception to the norm, and most of the time hatcheries and breeders don't breed for fast feathering males unless they are trying to create a line of wing-sexable chicks.
