Just brought home 20 babies help!

20 2 day olds amercaunas I have one lethargic how can I help her if at all?

and any tips to help pasty butts? thanks, i'm working and any easy tips to cut research time will help thanks

do you have any nutri drench for chickens? or even a dropper that a tsp of sugar to 16oz glass of mildly warm water

Electrolytes are good for providing fast energy, and are also somewhat good for pasty butts.

2 tbsp corn syrup/molasses/sugar
1 pint water
1 tsp baking soda
1 pinch salt.

Don't force them to drink, but this does help quite a bit with energy problems. We also used it to treat diarrhea in baby goats when I was a kid and it definitely helped.

Looks like I'm losing the lethargic one, I cleaned her pasty she perked up a bit but soon was really bad, I dropped some water on her beak, she drank a bit, now she's barely breathing and being walked on, I'm going to see about moving her soon it's so sad just got them today 2 days old from a store too

thank you all. Despite my efforts 'little chica' died tonight. I'm dissapointed but glad she didn't die in the colder cage at the store and was laying in the warm red light on soft pine shavings instead.

the other 19 seem lively and active and happy, i definately have the brooder set up well, i've done that before, but last time my girls were already close to 2 weeks old when i got them so i never had the experience of such young ones and have the pasty butts, etc. so that was nerve racking hopefully the rest will grow well.

I always start chicks off with ACV (Bragg, w/Mother) in their water (1T/gal). It's cut down on pasty butts (knock on wood) for me. Pasty butt could probably be stress from the shipment & changes. Clean pasty butt with warm water & cotton ball, dry the best you can. Careful they don't chill ... Have you checked the temperature in your brooder with the red light? Are they able to get way from the heat if need be?

I believe pasty butt is caused from too warm of temp. Double check that there are a few "cooler" areas (not completely under heat lamp , dedicate a corner or side) in the brooder if they need to cool down at all.

So sorry for your baby chick loss, at least you saved it from the cold cage so it was more comfortable in its last days.

Good luck with the rest if your chicks

I gave my chicks sand and it helped with the runs. It is like baby grit. I originally planned on switching to crushed oyster shells but my girls are laying wonderful eggs so I stuck with the sand. Sorry for your loss. I almost lost my rooster bringing them home the trip was hard on him, but he pulled through. Traveling is very hard on the babies. I'm sorry for your loss.
