Hello,

I live in Hazel Green, Al and am just building my coop. I was wondering if I should make the bottom out of 1/2" fabric or should it be solid? While I have been lurking on this site for quite sometime, I am finally taking the plunge and getting some chickens. Most of the coops I have seen on this this site show solid bottoms.

Just curious as to which way to go?

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

From the standpoint of comfort for the birds, I am sure a floor with bedding is more comfortable, as well as warmer in cold weather. Have you looked through the coops section to see some examples of different setups!

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I have lurked for a couple of years. Search the different coops and planned on how to build my coop. Collecting lumber to be "repurposed"and just planning. When the time came, I have completed everything but the bottom. (floor) My Father-in-law thinks we should go with the 1/2 x 1/2 fabric. I think we should go with a solid bottom. I am going to put stray on top of either one. BTW, my coop ended up being a combination of several coops. My main goal was to do the entire thing with recycled items. (I didn't succeed but was very close).
