Good afternoon everyone,
New to the forum but been a lurker for a year or so. Figured I would introduce myself seeing as we just acquired our first few birds. Just re-homed some chickens for a colleague at work. Built a 4'x8' coop and 4 nesting boxes with perches in the top of the gambrel roof. She gave us a ton of supplies and 5 chickens. 3 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Easter Eggers or Legbars. Not really sure which breed the 2 are but they are sassy little birds and a total pain to catch. Below is our new coop and run. They seem to be adjusting well and the Reds are so gentle the one follows my son around and lets him pick her up. I'll get a picture up of the other birds I'm not sure what they are. They lay a whiteish green egg. Not as dark as I have seen from other EE but they look identical to them. The people we got them from said Silkies but I don't think they are. Maybe just young and not long feathered yet? I dunno but Any help hints you could pass along I would appreciate it.
Right now I have their feed hung in the coop on the end, I don't put it outside as I'm afraid it will attract mice and rats. I do have their water outside although they prefer to drink out of the puddles instead of their clean water dish. I am planning on extending their run to make it 25'x25' but the one side I want to go out towards has runoff from the hill will they venture over there or steer clear from all the water? At some point I would like to build a 12'x30' enclosed run for the winter months.
