Thank you very much. So, I have all that available, good green and a lot of bugs that most of the times are a pest to my crops! I saw a topic were they have built a chicken moat, and I think I will try that one, I know chickens are effective insect controllers, but in my area the problem are the predators we have foxes, raptors and ferrets. So I need to spend a lot in fencing.
I have available, all types of feed (if I buy), and some wheat "surplus" (from my crop, I usually use I to make bread), and many restaurant leftovers, so from the posts before I think I will make some corn+leftovers+some wheat mix when the pasture is more weak.
Lil' Roo :
feed the corn but mix in some good quality chicken feed. This will decrease your feed bill and your chickens will still be getting good nutrition. By the way, I treat my chickens like farm animals more than pets. I feed them all kinds of scraps including things that would drive people here nuts and let them free range. I purchase layer pellets and some scratch to feed as well. I have 28 happy chickens that lay like crazy and feel solid and well fed when I pick them up.
Yes, I kinda do that to, I gave them all the vegetables peels, egg shells, bread, many leftovers from the restaurant but I avoid giving them meat, I don't know why but I have a feeling that meat can give them diseases. To save even more in the feed bills I will give them the maize surplus mixed with that.
