Just curious abt double yolkers

We've gotten 6 double yolked eggs in the last 23 days (so abt 3 weeks, about 2 double yolkers a week) I'm just curious why. Healthy girls? We only have 13 so it's pretty surprising!

Double yolks are not uncommon with new layers. If they're established hens, there might be something odd about their genetics or reproductive systems.

Young hens (5-8ish weeks) are bad about weird eggs, I got 3/10 one day for double yolk. Just made omelets and only had 1/45 or so (10 weeks old now?), so getting much better! Don’t mind the double yolks but don’t like the soft shell eggs, especially when they get squashed in the pen!

My hens are older than 8 weeks, but maybe it's just good luck! Yes, soft shelled ones are the worst. They're like little exploding balloons.
