Just curious - do alot of broodies do this?

Wish mine were that good! Mine just try to go broody all the time. Although one of my bantam hens did hatch three scovy ducklings and I gave her 5 more that hatched in the bator. Its funny to try to see her cover them all, they will be as big as here in the next few weeks, but she tries hard!

I've given up trying to figure out why chickens do anything.

My rooster is brooding a batch of chicks by himself right now.

I think he is confused.

The only reason Impy still has his neck is that he's a good father to chicks. He does everything a good mama hen would except try to cover them at night.

I am thinking on a way to force the three older chicks off the nest. They'll be 9 weeks old on Monday and it's getting a little ridiculous. The brahma "chick" Betsy is nearly as big as Mama Doe now.

Doe sounds like a prize! What a great mama!

Hope you have room to keep her in chicks though, lol!

I've got two SF's, I'm hoping for only one of them to be broody inclined. Flower is pretty smart and likes to boss me, but Petal is a dingbat and can barely find her way out of the coop/run most evenings. She makes my Cochin Goldberry look like a genius. I'd be afraid to give her any chicks she'd just wander off and forget them or heaven forbid they pick up their mother's airhead ways.

And good lord those Trahmas are funny looking!
