Just curious who else is living super frugal

I saw an infomercial for a new thing the other day where you put it on your window for free TV. Can't remember what it is called though.

Hi Piglett,

Maybe I'll try ducks next year after I learn to butcher my first chicken this year. I got 31 chicks this year, only 7 are Cornish, all are pullets so some I will be saving for layers to add to my small flock of 8 layers.
I really don't mind eating chicken, I doctor it up and love making enchiladas out of it, and other stuff of course. Stir fry, spaghetti, chili, are all good using chicken or turkey.
they are a welcome change from chicken chicken chicken all of the time

We ground all our turkeys (mostly because I didn't want to pluck them by the time we had them) and I've found that helped a lot for the versatility. Once you put it in stuff it's almost like ground beef and you can do burgers, meatballs, whatever...
I got the kitchen aid grinder attachment for my stand mixer and it works great. It was kinda expensive (though I got it on a great sale I think I still paid almost $40 for it) but definitely worth the investment if you're going to keep processing animals.

Haha I don't eat canned meat.
I wouldn't eat ground turkey from a store (well for ethical reasons I wouldn't eat any meat from a store) but our homegrown was really good.
I spend a couple hours a day cooking and everything I've used it in my family really like.

We turned a lot of our excess turkey into stir fry. Yum!

The KitchenAid grinder is awesome. I get sliced beef shanks (chimaro res) at the Hispanic market for $1.57/lb and grind for hamburger adding the marrow from the bones. Makes it so lean and flavorful. It's fabulous and really beefy.
