Just curious who else is living super frugal

Make you up a few freezer meals that you can throw in the crock pot in the morning.

Tons out there and easy

You know we always think about what if? Power goes out for weeks or months? What to do about washing clothes. I came across something on Amazon and thought "This might work".

A fellow on one of the reviews said to buy two of each and install on a 55 gallon drum. One for wash water and one for rinse water. He also said to replace the short pole on the washer with a broom handle.

Keeping in mind JUST IN CASE

YOu guys are killing me!!

On a simialr not I was talking with a learned man last night and told me the full details of the impact of the effects of the sun, like the other night but many times stronger. A good blast of solar_______ and our power grid would be fried and the ability to fix and replace would take about 18 months. I could hardly contain my panic. Geting water from a well is my biggest worry. I cant wash clothes without water. ANd I'm about 1/4 mile from a river so hauling would be impractical. THough I have heard horror stories of young boys traveling twice a day to the river on horse back to water the horses . . . the fellow suggested a windmill and a tank . . .Last year I was thinking of a merrygoround system but also heard it wasnt very good---

SUggestions on how to pump water up a 300 foot artisian well??? ? Lordy, maybe I need to be thinking about a hand dug well!

Are you sure you have an Artisan well? it is my understanding with an artisan well the water comes to the surface with no effort, it is simply getting it to the house or barn with a pump. so if it is a true artisan well all what would be needed is a "basin" dug possibly sealed (like a in ground concrete drinking troth for horses) to catch and hold water then use buckets to fill barrels or other buckets to transport to the house.....

Hmmm . . . there is a pump down deep in the well though. Yet I do remember a lot of water around the cap at times. I need to investigate this further. Just not sure who to ask. Perhaps the well company would have records going back to the time they drilled it 20 years ago. In the house is a big pressure tank that is for moderating house pressure, not meant as a holding tank. Water is dang cold. Delicious too.

My well is 450 feet deep and a thousand feet from the house. The pump in that well can handle sucking it out of the aquefer and pushing it a thousand feet and up a rise of about 20 feet. I have two pressure tanks at the well which provide the pressure to the house. Its a six horse power pump... I had to replace it last year because the old one wore out.... and why I dont have chickens any more... Long story. But He recommended one that was about half the capacity... it cost 600 dollars to replace it.

Well pumps can be operated by solar power. Windmills limit on depth is right around 300 feet. So The best solution would be to get a Storage tank and have the windmill constantly filling that storage tank. then you possibly could hook it to a hand pump at the house.

There are sooo many different solutions.

When we sold most of our land about 15 yrs ago we had a nice manmade pond about 50x 100 or so. The man that bought it decided it wasn't big enough so tore down the walls and dug out a 7 acre pond. I have lots of water available about 400 yds. He'll share. Need to have barrels and a bicycle to get it.
