Just curious who else is living super frugal

I am so scared ... and sad ...

So, as far as being frugal ... my husband just got fired from his job today. His boss told him he just wasn't a good fit for the company and said he hadn't done anything wrong to be fired for. I'm totally frustrated at this point. This has been a pattern for him. He gets fired for no reason. Gets another job, works it for awhile, gets fired for no reason.

What the H*** am I supposed to do? He's 56 years old. We've been married for 22 years. The longest he worked anywhere was 4 years. I can't be any more frugal than I already am without starving and selling our only vehicle, which would then make it impossible to work. I gave up my career to take care of our autistic son when he was a toddler. I still spend days dealing with his issues even though he's in college.

I am so scared ... and sad ...

I am so sorry for your loss and frustration! I hope he finds one shortly.

Ok Erinszoo, Let's get this straight, If you are an okie, you should know all about putting on your big girl panties and getting on with it ! We don't have to be told it's a two way street. So, sweety, pity party's over, it's a new year. Call your son tell him to get part time job to help with his expenses. Dust off your best outfit and go get you and hubby new work together and give him a big hug for being there with you for all those years. Things will get better for you both in no time. Go make us Sooners proud ! Good luck

Saved $32 in pennies last year. I start at the beginning of each year saving all my change at the end of the day. Then on new years eve we cash it out. The pennies were the only thing that remained this year but that was perfect timing to buy a bag of wheat, some cat food, and bacon. Now to find the money for the new heat source. 11° is a wee bit cold.

Erinszoo, I am saddened to read of you and your husband's trials. I have a neighbor who is like your husband in that he can't seem to settle into any work that he can count on for any length of time. I admire the man because he is quite skilled in all the things he does, and I know that he throws himself totally in whatever work he finds. You guys need a whole new paradigm – perhaps a business of your own. Today's leadership and management skills can't seem to be counted on in this economy – it wasn't always like that.

@erinszoo , Sometimes organizations help. Such as food pantries, churches, government agencies, etc. Just google financial assistance in your city & maybe you can get help with bills or whatever.

I know that people mean well when they tell you or hubby to move on & get another job, but believe me, that is MUCH easier said than done! I wish you both the best of luck. Keep looking and don't be ashamed to ask for help.

Thanks all for the good thoughts and words of encouragement. They help. We'd love to start our own business, mainly raising turkeys, dairy goats, bee keeping, and market gardening ... but we don't have enough land to do it full scale to the point we can make money from it. We're pretty self sufficient but bills bills bills. We don't use credit cards, have a used vehicle, eat 90% of our meals at home, make our own animal feed, ... the list goes on. Nothing extra to save for a down payment for land. Shrug.
