Just curious who else is living super frugal

I just stumbled upon this thread and wanted to jump in. We haven't used a dryer in about 7 years. I bought the wooden drying racks and have them all over the house. Of course if we have company the laundry all gets piled into my bedroom (the catchall room of the house). When we had an attic (pre-ds) I had some lines up there. We also have cast iron radiators throughout the house so when the heat is on we pile clothes on top and they dry rather quickly. When I first stopped using the drier, I saved apprx $20/month on electricity. It would probably be more now that rates are higher. My dh makes the majority of the laundry, too, and his stuff has to be washed separate because they are the greasiest, filthiest clothes in the house. Gross!

Hmmm, the wooden racks would probably get toppled by all the dogs..no radiators...I am thinking I can string some lines in an extra bedroom, I was just leaving that as a last option because its upstairs and the steps are narrow and steep.
My hubbys clothes get their own load too, I'm not putting his icky stuff in with mine!

google retractable clotheslines. you may be able to get something somewhat attractive(at least not hideous) and hang where you don't have to go up narrow steep stairs.....

When we started redoing the stairs up to the attic, I had to climb a ladder with the basket of laundry on my head like the chiquita banana lady. That was quite a sight!

I do have lines inside my house, in the short hallway! Hubby made me one when my dryer went out. Does a great job drying my clothes during the winter and it would humidfy the house. I loved it!

Consisted of short wood dowels, drilled holes and using cotton clothesline, five times across, knotted at ends that you can pull them when after awhile it slackens over time. You certainly can remove the lines if you like...it is fastened to the wall with rachet eye hooks.

the only problem I see is that it would be in the way of the bathroom door that you have to lift the lines to close the door. Other than that, it's open most of the time.

Mom gave me the looks and told me its tacky to see laundry hanging in the hallway. Who cares? I'm all for energy!

My mother in law said it made me "look poor" to hang clothes on the line!! Waste is waste!! Besides, what smells better than laundry dried outside?(ok, maybe home made bread!)

Hey nothing wrong with smelling freshly baked bread....you would attract flies (people) wanting to sit next to you!

I love having my sheets on the clothesline. My husband actually asked our elderly neighbor if we could have his clothesline poles last year. ( He had not used them in years since his wife died) My darling hubby dug them up and installed them in our yard. Only cost was the concrete to set the poles and the new clothesline. I work full time so I can't use the line as much as I like, but I hang
alot of our clothes on plastic clothes hangers right out of the washer and hang them on the shower rod or on the doorframe to dry. ( this also saves on the wear and tear of my hubby's work uniforms.)
