Just dumped out 1 cat, 2 kittens and 2 dogs.

Yes I did it. I just put the cat and kittens in a pet carrier, tied the dogs in the back of the truck and drove them 35 miles down the road and dumped them. .................Right into the vets office for spaying and neutering

. I'm so happy we are FINALLY able to get an appointment to have them all done at the same time. Saves trips. Even though the trip was well worth it. Because I adopted a shelter cat(that I had my eye on for 3 days)I not only paid $50 for the cat and his neuter but I received a certificate to have my other pets "fixed" for only $50 more. So for $100 I am getting my new cat, 2 Beagles and the 2 kittens spayed and neutered. I can't wait til they get to come home tomorrow. Wish them(and me) luck!!!

I figured that it would get LOTS of attention. I'm really nervous as to whether or not the surgeries will change our dogs willingness/want in hunting. Our Beagles have been activly hunting all summer and we actually have a UKC Trial next month. My husband wanted me to wait til it was over to have them fixed but my certificate is only good for 30 days and all pets including adopted one have to be brought within 3 days of each other unless the vet is full and I would have to wait longer.

So he is mad at me. ESPECIALLY since the Beagles I dropped off WERE his breeding females. I told him the world had enough beagles(among other breeds) so we weren't going to contribute ANYMORE. We had been breeding rabbit hunters for 5yrs together but he has was raised doing it. While our girls have produced awesome and beautiful hunters, it wasn't until I went to the shelter to look for a barn cat that I realized the magnatude of the dogs in shelters.

I always heard it on the news and of course "rescues" are always preaching about it but I always just thought it was for them to make money. Now I realize that even though OUR pups might have found great homes where they actually have a "job" that if we stop breeding those same families may just go to a shelter and get a great dog. I don't want to sound like a comercial on animal planet or anything but walking into the shelter yesterday I saw MANY purebred dogs(Beagles, pitbulls, labs, husky,and a st.bernard) and some "designer" ones as well. They were so sad and it made me mad at the breeders for letting them end up there and then I realized I WAS ONE OF THOSE SAME TYPE OF BREEDERS! I broke down and cried. I just wanted to adopt them all so I wouldn't have to see them in those small cages and kennels.

I just hope that someone on here rethinks buying a dog and checks their shelters first. I know that alot of places its harder to adopt a dog from a shelter or "rescue" than it is to adopt a human child but hang in there and keep trying until you find one that will work with you.

Whoever gets "mad" can go adopt a rescued beagle!

As for hunting, I would think that once the hormones have dissapated after the altering, the dogs wouldbe better able to concentrate on the job at hand. Makes sense to me, anyway!

Thanks. I really hope your right. But I don't think that their attention could get any more concentrated on the rabbits. They are hunting machines.
