I’ve just discovered that one of the babies my hen hatched (we had vent sexed and was told it was a girl) is now trying to crow? I have been wanting to get a rooster to play around with genetics and expand my flock anyway so he came around just in time! I’m unsure of how genes are even passed from parents to chicks so any advice is helpful? Along with any special care I should do now that there will be a rooster?
His name is Elvis and he is a 7 week old Lavender Orpington. He is from show quality parents and I’m hoping he’ll make cute babies…. But how do I know what’ll come out of those eggs?
We have the hens below ( any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!)
- 1 blue Ameracauna
-2 splash Ameracauna
- 1 buff Brahma
-1 olive egger
- 2 Easter egger
- 1 barred rock
-1 sapphire gem
- 1 wellsummer
- 1 white leghorn
- 1 cream legbar
- 6 Maran/Easter egger crosses
- 1 Red production
When should I expect him to start to try to get with the ladies too?
(He used to be in the large coop with mom and his 2 other siblings but he started getting plucked at and was losing feathers) I separated him with the 2 other chicks but I believe the siblings are both female will that be an issue?
Below are attached pictures of the handsome man and his soon to be flock of all the currently laying hens, some listed above are still chicks but I’ll need to know eventually
I also included a picture of all the eggs I get so far and color it’s missing the white eggs and some brown eggs
