Just found red mite on new addition to my flock. How do I treat it?

Are several treatments needed or will one thorough treatment do? Also, does the medication render their eggs unusable for a period of time?

And thank you all for the information. Much appreciated.

I have read where one treatment (thorough) does it. I think if it were me, I would check vents thoroughly every day after that for at least a couple of weeks. And if I saw even one more, repeat. I might repeat once a week for a couple of weeks regardless. That is just me, tho. And BTW, good for you spotting it early!

Permethrin (and possible preventative woodash which can be put or dusted in the coop too) is a natural substance. Where you dont want to eat the eggs is with some worming meds.

but do the permethrin for all of this first. preventative measures later.

Also consider whitewashing the coop as a preventative measure going forward. I wrote a thread on this, I will look it up for you.
