Just Gettin Started!!!

We (that is my girlfriend and I) have just gotten our first chickens in the form of chicks. We gotten a total of 6 "babies", three are Ancona's and we forgot what the other three are , but they are suppose to lay green eggs. We are so new at this it isnt funny. We will be needing A LOT of help and advice, and we are looking forward to making new friends.

Welcome...I am a few months into hens as well...but I did not get baby chicks yet...there is a lot of info on the "Learning Center" button on the top of your screen...

I built a coop modified from this plan...which is supposed to be suitable for 8 hens or so (mine free range during the day)

We want to thank all those fellow BYCer"s who welcomed us to the fold, Boy our babies are getting big their Lil feathers are coming in. I have a question about the coop We're building. We're building our own just something out of our heads really, but the question is about laying boxes or space. do we have to make separate boxes for each hen and if so how big do they have to be? Our thoughts was just to build a long box with a lid that juts out from the "hen house". The other questions are; is it recommended that the laying area be elevated from the floor/ and if we need a space for each hen can we "stack" the boxes like terracing?
