Just getting started and saying hello

I think I did. They had no food, no water, and the poop was deep with no fresh bedding to be found. There were dozens of eggs in the boxes half of them broke. There were whole and broken eggs all over the floor. They are picking each other and the ducks. Thought I would be picking up feed with them so I have none on hand. Gave them a cabbage out of the garden and a bunch of cucumbers plus some sunflower seeds and a couple dozen worms I had on hand for fishing. They are in a clean coop with a small but clean run. There is still grass for them to eat. Tomorrow I will get feed and bedding. They have nice clean roosts for the night.

Well thank goodness you came along when you did. I know that you will enjoy them, and I am sure they will enjoy their new home. Post pics when you are all settled.

I went out and checked on them tonight. They were starting to go into the coop and perching on the roosts. Every one of them had huge crops. Obviously they loved what I threw them. I already cut up a bunch of veggies and some fruit for tomorrow. I don't know if I had the veggies small enough for the ducks today, but they will feast tomorrow.

It sounds like you are already being so thoughtful about their comfort. This site is fantastic for everthing from health questions to ideas for treats. I am still new to chickens and don't know what I would have done without BYC.

Well, I am now roosterless. They were being mean to the hens and fighting with each other not to mention too much noise. However, I actually have 14 laying hens. I also have 4 male and 1 female Pekin ducks. I wish I could trade a couple males for a couple more females.
