Just started. My daughter wanted to get chickens a couple of years ago so I looked into it and found out my town did not allow backyard flocks. Since then the town has begun to allow raising chickens within certain guidelines. I am happy to say that I have started construction of a modest coop and am looking forward to picking up chicks. My wish list is two Buffingtons and two Barred Plymouth. I could use any advice given and have already found this site helpful.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I recommend the Learning Center as the best place to start you chicken education. And joining your state thread. Just put your state name in the search box and it will come up. The locals will be the best ones to ask about what breeds do best, what type of coop will endure the weather, where the feed stores etc. are. What predators are lurking and what to do about them.

Hey @berettp I am so happy you joined our roost at BYC! I would like to welcome you with open arms! Yes this site is very helpful for all chicken related things! Thats is a very modest coop and I applaud you I would never be ab;e to build my own I had to buy mine lol. That contest that sumi left is a great idea and the Learning Center recommended by DD and CTKen. I hope you enjoy BYC and make sure to post pictures of your flock and give us updates on how you are doing here https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/40/family-life-stories-pictures-updates I am happy you were able to follow your dream and get a flock of your own that is so nice! I hope you and your flock have a great time this Summer!
