Just getting started in Central NC

So this is going to be the guiding photo for our coop. The majority of the wood will be free pallets broken down. Small changes I want to make include:
  1. a little more over hang for the roof on the backside as this is where the nesting boxes will be and I don't want to get wet when getting eggs.
  2. I do want to build this approx. 20" off the ground so chickens can have more run space. (plan to do an open floor under the roost like https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/show-me-your-poop-boards.1287739/#post-20857549 or https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/show-me-your-poop-boards.1287739/page-17#post-20953413)
  3. Need a chicken weather vane for the cupola.
  4. Single door instead of double door and it will be moved to the back (at least based on this photo)
  5. Feed and water station under the shelter on the front
  6. Run to extend from the sheltered area

That's a great looking coop you've pictured!

That looks lovely, however when you are building to keep chickens in, you need to build to keep predators out. That includes flying ones (hawks & owls) four footed ones such as dogs, coyotes, raccoons, etc. Don't forget about the snakes that might take a liking to fresh eggs as well. Good luck!
