I am new to "backyard chickens" but am excited about building my coop/run and getting some chickens all settled in. My kids are really excited and I hope this will be a great learning experience for us all.

Im new to this too. Isn't it wonderful having a resource like BYC to help us throughout the experience! I have learned TONS! :)

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Chickens are a nice family project! A great place to start is the BYC Learning Center, lots of nice articles on all aspects of poultry keeping you'll find helpful https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center Be sure to check out the Coops section for all kinds of ideas for your coop https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops
and it is always fun to check out your state thread for chicken keeping neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread

Certainly excited about learning more and this is a GREAT resource to do just that!

Make sure to build a coop and run much larger than you think you will need. Because before you know it chicken math happens. I build a 11l*8w*8H coop and was only going to have 4 chickens to start out. @ leghors one bard rock and one red sexlink. Now 8 Weeks in i Have 2 buff or. hens, 2 buff or. roos and 2 more bared rock hens and want more. So Next year tax money is building me a very very large coop!. Chicks are like money you always want more.
