Hey everyone - I just got my eggs in the mail this will be my third attempt to hatch. First was my pair who were killed eggs- nothing - then a Craigslist batch -nothing - now an eBay seller who guaretees hatching. I’m nervous because of the failed attempts. I have a mini Brinsea I put it on today at noon when my eggs came in mail unexpectedly. I was told unwrap and let them sit 24 hours. The incubator seems to be steady 99.5 ish it’s right under the 100 mark. I tested with another thermometer. The instructions said fill half the middle part and continue to add water on side filler to make sure only half is filled. On lock down the other half gets filled. I did this with the other batches so either they were all infertile eggs or I’m doing something wrong with this incubator. Does anyone have any advice before I put them in tomorrow ? I’m also wondering if they should face a certain way I was changing positions Last time having pointier end at center and then wider end back and forth. Thanks

You may want to post in Incubation & Hatching forum ... I've read that incubating shipped eggs can be difficult. Have you calibrated the humidity of the incubator? Some "dry hatch" with good results but know for a fact beginning temp/humidity differ from lockdown. Here's a chart but some say ambient temp/humidity plays a part in incubating eggs also ... It's so humid here, I don't add water until lockdown.

Did you ever see any veins forming in your previous attempts?
Nope nothing no development. I had five eggs left from my pair that were killed and nothing. Then I posted an ad on Craigslist to get fertile eggs off someone I got 6 eggs and nothing. Now I went on eBay they’re guarenting high hatch rates from Florida. so I’m nervous about this batch I watched the Temp constantly and made sure water was half filled constantly and turned the eggs at least three times a day the most ten times. I tracked which side x or o was on the night before to make sure each weren’t on one side consecutive nights. This batch 6 shipped one cracked so I only have 5 eggs to work with and I don’t want to mess up.
Thanks

Ok thank you - I’ve been scanning through duck forum duh i didn’t realize there’s an incubating forum. I can’t navigate sites on my phone very well I just moved to rural area and they do not have WiFi towers in place yet so I can’t use my iPad lol thanks

Thanks

I found it was helpful to let them set in the incubator for a day or two before turning them. I got a better rate of growth with mine verses turning them. But I haven't been doing this very long. Just in the 4 batches I have incubated I have noticed that those that I let set with out turning in the incubator did better on developing than those I started turning after the 24 hour rest.

Ok very good to know. Thanks !!! The ship date said 24th so I didn’t expect them but luckily I was home to unwrap right away and rest. However, I watched my boyfriend man handle the box swaying up the stairs and one egg was cracked during shipment which makes me nervous they were really shaken up

I just read on incubating forum to turn the pointy side down so I did. I had them sideways. I also read you can candle and check air sacs - four have clear slightly bigger than dime size air sacs at the top. One it looks attached to yolk still but that was the last egg I put pointy side down.

I found that to my untrained and unexperienced eye, a lot of the air cells look like they are attached to the yolk for a little bit. But that shifts as the egg matures. I stored mine for 24 hours in a carton in the room I was going to incubate in before putting them into the incubator. But pointy side down helps get the cell to get to where it is supposed to go.
