We just got our first ever chicks today -- the booklet at the feedstore said we were getting "Ameraucanas/Americanas," and when the lady phoned me today she told me my "Araucanas" were in, but I know they're really Easter Eggers, which is what I wanted. We ended up just getting two, but I'll be getting some actual Ameraucanas in a few weeks. My 3 year old daughter had her heart set on a yellow chick and got this one and named her Daisy (they had so many, we really just got to pick a colour rather than really hand pick them)

Any guess on what colour she'll be when she gets feathers? She's yellow, but there's a bit of greyish/brownish on her back and chest and head. I tried to explain to my daughter that her yellow chick isn't going to be yellow when she gets feathers, but I don't think she really believes me. This one has kind of droopy wings, when I first put her in the brooder she totally scared me, she had one wing drooping, then the other, then her head kind of flopped a bit, and then she went to sleep for a few minutes. She seems ok, not scared of my hand, she pecked at my fingers and kept coming towards me when I was taking her picture, I hope the wing droopiness is just her being tired!

This is the one I picked, and I think I'll call her Marzipan

Any guesses on her colour someday? She's bigger than Daisy, and at the top of her beak she's got a longer 'comb,' or where the comb will be I guess. I sure hope she doesn't end up being a roo! And she is way louder too!

They cheep-cheeped the whole way home, much to the worry of my daughter ("Why are the baby chicks crying?!" "I don't want them to cry!"). And they are still cheep-cheeping away! The temperature under the heat lamp is 95 degrees, so I don't think they're cold. They know where the food and water is and I've seen them eat. Maybe they're lonely with just the two of them? Am I doing something wrong, or not doing something and thats why they're so cheep-cheepy? (Man, they are Loud too, lol!)

I took them out and held them for a while and watched some tv, they seemed to like it! They were quiet except for the occasional cheep. That Daisy is a funny one -- she hopped up on my shoulder, and then pecked me on the ear! She kept trying to burrow between the back of my neck and the chair, and she kept huddling up under my chin

They both seem very curious and friendly. But now that I put them back in the brooder they're cheeping away so loud!

Congrats on the Fuzzy Butts!!! I don't have enough experience to tell colors though. Sorry!

God Bless!

Awww, they're so cute! Sounds like you're already enjoying them.

Having chicks is so fun! I hope they thrive for you!

They've quieted down a bit now, hopefully its nap time! Boy are they LOUD! Haha! My hubby is going to be just thrilled when he gets home, ha!

Well they survived the first night! I didn't hear any cheep-cheeping all night, and nothing in the morning, so I went downstairs all worried that they'd somehow been cooked by the heat lamp or jumped out and got cold and croaked! But I guess they just slept well, and were still sleepy this morning. My daughter just loves them, and they are going to be so friendly and tame with all of the attention they get! Poor kid, she already been pooped on twice now, lol! My Marzipan likes to just sit in my hand and fall asleep, and her Daisy likes to peck at spots/sparkles/imaginary things on her clothes, climb up onto shoulders, try to burrow in her hair/arms/wherever. They are so funny!

Wow, day 2 with them and I can already see a difference in their little wing feathers!
