New duck mom here!! My husband had some as a small child but doesn't remember a lot of that. So it's still mostly new to both of us. We settled on the Saxony after finding a lovely local breeder, just brought our trio of girls home last night. Until they have names, I just call them the Gossip Girls. When we toured the farm on Saturday and met them for the first time, it was pretty funny. I was holding one, and she'd go, "Peep-peep!" And one of her sisters back in the brooder would answer her, "Peep PEEP!" When DH had had his turn and put her back in, she made a mad dash back to her sisters. They gathered in a circle, and the peeps were ON. I just know they were discussing what had just happened.

I love their adorable little characters.

We live in a fairly saturated area when it comes to heritage duck breeds - really a perfect place for ducks, since it is very wet here. I was thrilled to find this farm/breeder since they have the same feeding values I do

, and when we toured the place their ducks were all really happy and well taken care of. I could easily see that the Saxony's laid-back and super sweet temperament (quieter than the other breed they raise separately) suited us perfectly. I am so happy with my darling little girls!

Now to persuade DH that we need a little boy from the next hatch...

Jessica89, yours are beautiful!! I really love how quiet they are. :) They have an understated and oft overlooked elegance about them, this breed. Definitely not (IMO) flashy like some other breeds gaining popularity, but I think they make up for that in personality and depending on line, attributes.

It's sad that most of the things we noted about them aren't even out there on the web! So it's always great to "meet the breed" in person, can't believe everything you read. There are some websites out there that say the Saxony is loud!

They're generally not, IME, unless something's going on and still they weren't louder than the chicken hens I saw.

Thank you!
I think any duck breed have their own personalities and some may be louder than others.

But my two are so quiet and docile.. compared to my Cayuga's. They are loud!
Make sure to post photo's as they grow. :D
