I've heard you can sex Welsh Harlequins pretty successfully based on bill color - Boys with darker bills, girls with lighter/black tip. I feel like that seems pretty straightforward, but I'm not sure what to think about our first to hatch today. Help me out! :-D My daughter wants to know as soon as possible if this is the ducky she's been waiting for.

I'm going to vote girl. we had 2 Welsh harlequins last year that were sexed by bill and they did, in fact, both turn out to be girls!

Thank you for your input! It really helps to get opinions from people who have had them :)

I agree...girl. I understand that only some breeder lines carry this trait, though, so I guess there really aren't guarantees. Our Holderread stock WHs followed the rule perfectly and all that we identified as female as 2 day olds are in fact females at 2 months of age.

These ducklings' parents were from Metzer Farms, where I believe they say they have about 90% accuracy based on bill color :) I hope she is a girl! Thanks for the input!

If anyone else thinks they know, please chime in!

Boy? I guess? My babies were starkly contrasted. The one in the front is a boy...girl in the back. I had only one that looked like your new one and sadly he/she died at 3 weeks, so I'll never know what the outcome would have been.
