I got home from school today and saw that my lovely Fiona was killed today. I let them out in the backyard for a free day. What could have done this? I live in southern California in a very populated city. We do have raccoons and possums but they are usually a nighttime thing. I rarely see coyotes in the day and they mostly occupy the large fields about 20 miles away anyways.

The weirdest thing was the rest of her body was fine. Just her head was gone. Sighs, I will miss her, she was a sweet hen!

Owls, possums, and skunks all eat the head and crop region and will typically leave the rest of the bird alone. We had a possum eat three of our ducks and five turkeys before we caught the sucker and it was eating them usually in the mornings. Sad.

oh I bet it was a skunk then! We have owls, possums, raccoons and many other critters but they are rarely out in the day but I have smelled skunks during the day time! I forgot all about skunks!
