Wellllll.....

I think I may close this chapter of my life of raising dairy goats

Here's my reasoning...
1) my kids and I don't enjoy the milk.. sooo, even if i did want some goat milk fresh from my farm, I would probably get a different breed of goat.
2) We nevvvverrr get to take a weekend vacation.. and with my husband being kind of sick of his job.. I think a vacation would do us all some good, especially him!!... and no, we don't have any stand in milkers that could help out if we did plan a va-ca!
3).. I hate to say it .. but Money is a big issue! we are a simple livin' kind of family and the cost of grain, hay, straw, vaccinations, dehorning.. etc. etc. is kind of getting to me... us!

So there it is... It would in the end be a bit of a relief.. but is still soo hard!

It's impossible for me to not get attached to my farm friends! and my daughters will be quite sad as well!.. which I know is only temporary.
It is an exciting thought to put our pasture to more use.. Big, BIg gardens, flower raising, pumpkin patches, sweet corn.. many ideas!

Anyway.. thanks for reading and any thoughts of support are WELCOME!

Well sometimes you've just got to do what you've got to do, and it doesn't sound like dairy goats are for you at this point in time!

I'm sure it will be hard, I know I have some that I just couldn't part w/! But you will probably feel relieved to be out from under it. I don't have a back up milker either (other then my mom and if I took a vaccation she'd probably come w/ me), but I can't afford a vaccation anyway.

I fully understand where you are coming from. As much as I love all of my critters it is almost impossible to go anywhere. Even for a night away. We are "married" to our animals and can't leave for a vacation. Anything we do has to be planned around them.

If you've had your enjoyment with them then definately move on to something new. You'll miss them at first but will find your new activities will keep you happy and busy.

It's always hard to "give up" on something .. but it sounds like it just wasn't a "fit" for your family.
