.. yet those guys are fertile!.. of all the eggs I have in the incubators.. your's are the dirtiest.. AND doing the best! I have to wonder if a few of the sellers I got eggs from washed theirs.. out of the super clean ones I have had several go rotten already!
What is it with rotten eggs? They have to be weeks old to go rotten like that! Man I am so blessed that has never happened to me! Well except once. I tossed the egg and it was solid black when it hit OUT THERE lol that is gross people should have more ethical-ness in doing this..I worry if my eggs get five days old! and send an email letting someone know that certain ones are five days or what ever. I know how long it take though for eggs to go rotten and that is absurd for someone to send eggs that old.

I am no expert but I have had a few of my fresh eggs go bad. I don't think it has to do with age.....might have a crack or some other way bacteria gets in. eggs that start and stop can get rotten too.

A couple of years ago I was buying SUPER expensive eggs from a single BYC seller (really wanted them) . I must have bought 8 sets of eggs. I think almost every box had at least one egg that went totally rotten in them, and overall got very few chicks indeed. The eggs must have been washed :(

yup.. "fresh" eggs can go rotten very quickly..

hairline cracks.. washing (removing the bloom).. the eggs laid or soaking in muddy conditions (warm egg hitting very cool wet environments would have the pores open and then contract suddenly trapping the funkiness).. improper storage... dead embryos.. these can all cause eggs to go rotten pretty quickly if the bacteria has breached the shell...

of mine ... the ones that were rotten were 9 days in the incubator or less .. the newest egg had only been in the incubator for about 4 days when it started weeping..
they were also all clears... so they were either infertile or damaged and never started to form an embryo..

I bought some Delaware eggs from a seller from South Carolina just over a year ago... every single egg was rotten when it arrived.. a few had already exploded in the box before it was opened.. My mailman asked me what had died in there because the box stunk so badly

sad thing was that the box never got lost in the mail.. it arrived within 3 days of shipping..

I have had a couple of my eggs arrive rotten in the past, even though they were fresh when they were sent; none over 4 days old. However, I think extremes of temperature along the way can open the eggs up to rapid spoilage. Also, if an egg is broken early in the shipping and then gets warm along the way, it will quickly become rotten and affect the others.

Well yuck. I never really thought of that honestly. Y'all are right about the cracks and stuff making eggs funky. I send all eggs with coolant so eggs normally arrive cool still. The coolant is colder than ice. They have non toxic gel in them. Hopefully they don't have cracks I candle every egg I send . In am always surprised when one turns up cracked many
Times I never saw the crack at all.
I guess I'm glad y'all discussed that since I am happier knowing a simple mistake like not seeing a cracked egg could be the culprit instead of age.

This is another reason why I like to ship eggs sealed in the plastic Easter Eggs. Even if one happened to be cracked or was broken, became rotten and/or exploded, it would all be contained to that one egg - no affecting the others.

Our eggs from you arrived VERY well, and it was our best hatch to date, even beating out a local egg purchase! Tried to leave a positive feedback, but it wouldn't accept it from the link (24 hour auction)
