I had chickens and ducks and geese when I was growing up. Got chickens two years ago. My husband and I built a chicken coop. It’s definitely been a learning experience. I have no grass in my backyard because my chickens ate it all lol. I planted some Kentucky blue grass on some mushroom compost and it’s a very slow growing grass so that seems to be coming up and they can’t kill it so far. I have 10 chickens, including Rhode Island, reds, Americana, and cinnamons. I also have three female and one male Muscovy duck and three surprise babies that we are taking care of. I dug up pond in our backyard. It’s probably about 500 gallons and we have a pump and filter connected. I had to rent an excavator to do it. The chickens drink out of it and the ducks love to swim in it.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow That is so beautiful what you've made there. :love

For new grass, check out sod in your area. We found some half an hour from us for $3.60 per five-foot roll. You'd have to make sure that they don't line it with anything like mesh or plastic. Ours was pure dirt and grass and is working well, even for the ducks! We also put it in the chicken pens.
