Hi everyone,
Have been reading threads for about a year now (ever since we got chickens) and decided it would be nice to respond once in a while so decided to finally join. Really enjoy byc and the people here … such a good learning experience and interesting topics.
We live on one acre and have 5 “RIR” production chickens from the local farm store, a roo and 4 hens. DH built them a tractor coop, with a slide in run on each side. Have had them parked in one place over the winter though. Used to be other roosters in the neighborhood but think hawks got them all. Hawks used to circle over our yard all the time but seem to just come back occasionally now to see if they can get access to them – they can’t. It is fun to have chickens, they are quite entertaining, and nice to have fresh eggs.
Probably won’t post pictures for at least a week because will need someone to help me do that. Looking forward to being a member as this is my favorite website.

Glad you finally joined, I have 3 rir hens an ameraucana hen and an ameraucana roo then I have 1 silver laced wyandotte chick 1 leghorn chick and a mystery bantam chick thinking silver laced seabright or porcelain d'uccle, and I'm trying to get the neighbor to sell me his pair of seramas.

Hi and

- great to have you onboard.
If you check out the Learning Centre, you'll find a whole host of resources on all things chicken.

Your state thread is worth joining as you will get to know other BYC members in your area (https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread). The members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best

Thanks for the welcome. When we first got chicks we had no idea there were such a vast choice of beautiful chickens, and love looking at the breeds and hearing stories of what other people have. I have read various posts from all three of you and want you to know you probably have a lot of "friends" lurking this site that you are unaware of, and think you are most gracious to welcome new members. We are limited to five, but thoroughly are enjoying them.
