Hello everyone,
My name is Lisa and my Hubby and I are the excited new parents to 5 chicks we hatched out yesterday in our homemade styrofoam incubator.
My parents live on a farm and have a small flock of Bosvelder chickens, a very hardy local breed.
They gave us 7 eggs and on day 6 we candled to find one was not fertile and another had a bacterial infection. So we were down to 5 and all 5 hatched!
They were happily cuddled together in the brooder box when I left for work earlier this afternoon. I saw two chicks drinking water already so I think we are off to a great start.
We'll keep the babies for a couple of weeks and then swap them for a few more eggs when we next go visit the farm.
I'm looking forward to joining the community of BYC.
I have a few pics that I'll post in a bit. And welcome any advise from you all.
Cheers.
