My name is Alberto living in Hopewell Junction. Would like to raise several hens when I retire. I have three acres and would love to raise several chickens for egg laying and consumption, but I can't because the ordinance in east Fishkill requires 10 acres, that has to change!

I'm hoping that someone will speak to the town about changing this ordinance that you guys have in place about acreage.

Do lots of research and maybe you can gather other people to join in on the cause.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Definitely follow the link that @Pork Pie has left for you here on BYC. There may be others in your town or area that can offer up help.

Good luck in getting those laws changed! :)

Sry, new to the site, yes Hopewell Junction, NY
I just looked up your ordinance. You can still have chickens on less than 5 (not 10) acres but you have to apply for a permit and that permit must be renewed annually. They are quite specific about how and where you can keep your no more than 6 chickens!

Hi Alberto and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy that you've decided to join us :ya

In addition to what dobie and pork pie provided, there's a sticky post on the thread that pork pie referenced. I think the last post in that thread lists a not-for-profit who helps people change ordinances.
