(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We've raised chicks through a farm program several times but this year I surprised the kids and we kept them! They are about 25 weeks now.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 4 chickens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have 1 White Rock, 1 RIR, 1 Lt. Brahma and 1 Easter Egger. The kids choose them by which chicks they thought were the cutest! And I thank BYC for their posts that helped me figure out what chick breeds we had. The White Rock was the hardest to figure out and took several months.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
By googling questions.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, listening to audible books while walking my dogs, and I love to volunteer.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have 3 kids~ 13, 11 and 10. We also have 3 small dogs that are doing surprisingly well with the chickens. We got our first egg from the White Rock 2 weeks ago, and last week the easter egger laid her first egg.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've been lurking on BYC for years for help with properly caring for the chicks. I decided to join because I'm finding I want to comment and occasionally can't find a post that answers my questions. I'm also in an area that backyard chickens are not the norm so I need a place of support. So thank you!!!
