Hi Everyone !
Apparently my Chicken Skills are much better than my Thread Skills. My apologies for posting in the incorrect Forum Last Night ! I am new to this site and joined in hopes of meeting new Acquaintances with Insightful Chicken Knowledge! I love all Animals and rescue everything. I currently have 3 dogs , 2 Cats, 2 Tropical Aquariums and a Family of Backyard Squirrels. I am excited to be starting my Feathered Flock this week and have painted their First Coop while anxiously awaiting their arrival.
Any idea how long it takes to determine Gender for Golden Laced Polish Chicks or Silkie Chicks? I only have room for a few right now and would like to keep it all Hens in the Family.
I look forward to your reply and joining the Feathered Flock Community !

Welcome!!! For silkies, it’s best to wait awhile...

usually you can sex chicks when they are 7-10 weeks earliest and 12+ weeks to be more accurate...

Hi @JADYN It's so nice to have you join us. This site is pretty awesome in many ways. You did an amazing job painting your coop! Silkies aren't the easiest to tell the gender at a young age. Sometimes if they're hatchery stock, you'll know a little earlier than with breeder stock, at least that was the case for me. I've got 4 Silkies. Two are roosters, then one hen, and one pullet. One of the roosters is a big ol jerk, but the other one is the sweetest rooster ever. Both of my girls are so so sweet, but constantly broody. Thankfully even when my girls are broody, they're not mean to people at all, even if they're raising their own babies. Silkies are special, especially if you're wanting them for pets. They do lay eggs but a lot of them go broody often so that interrupts egg laying. My silkies are pets. I groom small dogs and I always tell my clients that "Fancy Nancy" (my Blue Silkie Pullet) is my "lovely poodle chicken". They all LOVE them
