...and a little nervous.

I just bought a little coop and fixing it up a bit. When it is ready, a friend will give us three of their Buff Orpington hens. Hoping we do alright with them...so much to learn! I am happy to have found this site and will be a regular here as I start my chicken adventure. I live in the city and have a small yard but I keep hearing it is possible to have chickens in a small area so we'll see how that goes!

Hi :welcome

So pleased you could join the flock! No need to be nervous everyone here to help and everyone was new once too :hugs
Here is a nice section of the learning centre for you to check out https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/getting-started-raising-chickens
Has lots of great articles on getting started with chickens. Also be sure to ask any questions you may have, always a helping hand available. Hope you enjoy BYC and good luck with your new chickens :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Buff Orpingtons are a wonderful breed. I've raised them for years, and they are hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and good layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BOs.

Welcome to BYC!

We're glad to have you.

Good luck with your future flock! I've never kept Buff Orpingtons, but I've heard that they are very good layers and have excellent temperaments!

What a nice welcome! After I posted I read a few forums then started working around the house...then came back to find such a nice welcome. I believe I found the right place to learn and to ask questions - thank you
