just like to know

Awww, that's really sad. That's interesting about them attacking them because of the duck's color. Is that because they can see the males better than the females?

Breeding time. Drakes have been known to kill other drakes or any males that they think may be competition. Their harmones are acting up. My geese are all pets but I will not turn my back on them since I have had them look like they are going to come after me during their breeding time.

Did it just happen? I was warned to keep my drakes away from my breeding pairs of geese. Maybe the gander thought the duck was trying to move in on his goose? I have no personal experience, just lots of warnings and wives-tales.

At the lake near me, the geese don't seem to harm the male ducks except when they accidentally step on them or chase them away from food. But, I have heard stories of domestic ducks being hurt or killed by geese in the breeding season. Perhaps it's because they're penned up? Many of the ducks nap with the ganders at the lake, but most stay away from any grumpy geese.

I have two killer girl geese.... they have killed a few chicks, and a rabbit and a few mice and rats what ever they can get their beaks on. For some reason Bella and Ariel will play tug of war with any thing little they can get a hold of. Makes for a bit of a mess....but I just keep the geese and the rest of the birds seperate and all is well.
