Just lost half of my first hatch, dying every few hours...

Have you checked their crops are they hard extended

Could they be eating the bedding?

Silkies are prone to sour and impacted crops as their opening are smaller

Are you syre it is not coccid

Coccidiosis is usually a disease of young birds, but birds can be infected at any time if never before exposed. Coccidia populations take time to build to dangerous levels, therefore outbreaks usually occur when birds are between 3 and 8 weeks of age. Coccidiosis goes hand-in-hand with gut diseases, because it damages the gut and allows bacteria to enter and cause secondary infections. Coccidia are “species-specific” – coccidia that affect chickens do not affect other livestock, and vice versa

Their are different strains
sometimes blood does not have to be present

I am sorry I am of no help
best wishes

I pinched this from another thread hope no one mines

I got to visit with the poultry expert Kelly Klober. He told me that this is something he likes to use. He said it will clear up Coccidiosis and heal most cases of respiratory illness provided the birds are not Chronically ill. I have not yet experimented with it but I wanted to share it.

He said take a Gallon of raw unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar.
Add several Garlic cloves and drop in a couple of very hot red peppers. Let it sit for about a day or two.
Give the birds about 2 tablespoons per gallon of water, for Coccidiosis, and a little more than that for respiratory illness.
Just thought I would pass it along.

Have you noticed the chicks sneezing at all or any discharge
Do the chicks have any smell around their faces

Giving them some yogurt may help giving them good bacteria
A broad spectrum antibiotic maybe your only defense

best wishes

So sorry on your losses!

I would definetly call the state ag university and see about neocropsy. In Michigan it costs $150 for up to 6 birds. Especially with having other chickens, I would want to know if it is contagious to the rest.

Good luck and I hope the rest survive

max101 & wyliefarms thank you so much. The remaining 4 just put on vitamin water. And will do the other recommendations ASAP!!
The remaining 4 are alive. just do not look or act right....

Thank you all for your help. I will at least know I did my best thanks to you guys!!

Thought they were done, now another one started vomiting and having some bloody stool. From all of the input I think it is either Coccidiosis or eating feed that they were not old enough to eat.

Thank all of you

I just feel awful for them, the last ones are terrified, and so pitiful. Thank you all for helping me through this, just a wait and see on the rest of them....

I would like to know if I can make this stuff up ahead of time for "just in case", and if so how long will it last? Is it shelf stable? It sounds like it would be but I'm no herbal expert.
