This is my first ever incubation and today the eggs are 7 days old. I candled them for the first time with newbie eyes. I have one I wanted to get a second opinion on because I don't want to doom a baby chick.

I see the embryo. I guess that's why I'm afraid to throw out the egg. However, is that a blood ring or is it just veins?

Most likely a blood ring, but I would give it 3 more days to make sure. Just keep an eye on it in case it starts oozing.

:thumbsup I've been accused of "over thinking" It's great that you research before ... I do the same ;) Best wishes with your hatch :hugs

Keep candling.... on days 7, 10, 14, 18.
It's a real learning curve. By day 18 you'll be pretty sure what's what.
Best to candle thru air cell and in the the darkest room possible and reducing that stray light.

Best of Luck.....so exciting!!

I'm getting nervous. 11 of the chicks out of 14 eggs are alive as of the last candling. Tomorrow I turn them once and they go into 'lockdown'. Sunday I should have some babies. I'm glad it's on a day when we're home. With my luck, they'll all come Monday while I'm at work.
