I agree with pressing charges and getting a restraining order. Sorry to pry, but where the heck is your husband in all of this? What does he think?
I'm so sorry this happened. I think Widget has earned his right to be a Housechicken.
How you haven't "culled" that piece of human trash is amazing. I'd have neighbors coming over asking..."Is that BBQ I smell?", "No, it's SOB," I'd reply. Mindless cruelty cannot be tolerated. The guy is a psycho and should be locked up.

Isn't is chivalrous of your BIL to not look after you while his brother is serving, but to add to your stress? There is a special place for that guy...it should be on the caponizing thread I just read. Ugh!
I'm wishing you and the chicks peace and safety. If everything happens for a reason, I hope those innocent lives will lead the way to the help your BIL needs.

Widget is going to be in the house for awhile. Tho he/she is lonely. I tried to introduce Widget to other birds....she (i hope) is not having any of that. A long while back I told DH about chicken diapers and how I was thinking of getting one for Widget (when widget was about 4 wks old) an he kind of laughed. Can't blame him lol. Last night he told me to get one for widget and who ever else was left.
That is 15 more birds. I really don't think I can do 15 in the house. LOL But Widget is comfy in the brooder then hanging out on the bed with treats. I am so hoping that widget isn't a roo. I know the roo rules and it will kill me if thru all of this she is a he.
Last night I had Widget on the bed crying and I fell asleep. I have a small box on my bed and last I remember Widget went in it and smushed down sleeping. I woke up to Widget trying to remove a mole. ouch. If nothing else Widget is persistent. She sits on the counter on her pillow while I do dishes. Goes outside in the fenced in back yard in a little play area I built for the other babies for a little bit. Comes in when I see her panting...waddles into my room with the xtra ac and naps on my pillow then spends a few minutes on the computer with me. I finally had to put her back in her brooder. LOL
Widget has always been spoiled. In the pics I posted when she was little she was the one doing the funny jumping. FIL called her Godzilla chick.
She has defied death twice...never again. Granted, at the moment I'm running around with clorox wipes and paper towels but darn it I refuse to lose Widget.
The one tiny problem I am having with Widget is she hates my MIL. She loves me and my Fil and will tolerate my daughter tho she gives her a good stink eye.
My daughter says she feels like that chicken is plotting on her. lol

I have a vet that comes out for my other livestock and I have tried on several occasions to have BIL ummm neutered. Vet kept saying no tho he did get a few chuckles out of it.
