Just need to vent...

SO FIL is military, and your hubby is military, (thank you so much for both of their service, from the bottom of my heart!!!) and BIL is a pathetic 31 yr old who acts like a spoiled only child who is about 12?

Wow. I am sorry.

I am glad he took off, and that FIL is not going to put up with that kind of behavior.

I am so sorry about what happened. Under the circumstances, though, the chickens are the least of your problems. I am worried about you. That man is truly dangerous. Do everything you can to protect yourself. Alarm system. Motion sensor lights. Big dog. Big gun. Whatever. You might make a report to the police that if something happens to you, BIL is the likely culprit. Also make sure BIL knows that he is no longer welcome in your home at any time for any reason, and that you have informed the police about him as regards to you.

I just saw this thread. I am so sorry for your losses and all that you are going through, OP.

I hope everything works out and he leaves you alone from now on.

Honestly, that was my first thought, too. I've had the same thing happen here. But, you know your situation and BIL far better than anyone else does.

Pretty sure that weasels will drink the blood, and you should be able to find puncture marks if you search through feathers. I can't think of why BIL would take off if he wasn't the culprit.

I agree that if this person really did kill your birds, he needs a mental evaluation and is dangerous to anyone he is in contact with. So sorry for your loss and please be careful.

What a SOB!! I remember one time we lived in apple valley (another rural town in southern Cali, high desert.) I was very young at the time and my mom had chickens and puppies (her dog gave birth so there was about 8) well these people moved in 2 houses down and they had a kid about 18 years old living with them well one night we all left and got back really late well my dad went out to check on the animals and found all 8 puppies were STUFFED head first into a five gallon bucket filled water of course dead and he shined the flashlight over to the hen house that was next to the puppy pen and it was HORRIBLE they TORN apart heads off legs off and even worse. THEN my granddad came out with his spot light and shined it around well behind our house was a large field and in the field was the kid covered in blood and when he seen them he says that was fun well needles to say my dad leaped over the fence and was chasing him my granddad with .357 in hand (ex navy WWII) chasing him in the truck well the kid runs back to his house and goes in well my gpa beats on the door and his dad answers it he grabs him by the shir shoves him up against the wall and tells him what the kid did and tells him he WILL BE paying for ALL the hens and puppies and told him if he ever caught that kid in the street he was toast then he called the cops on them BUT of course it was well you can't prove it was him anyway his dad knew it was him and so did they and than paid even tho and we never did see that kid again that that was a very disgusting sight and very disturbing to think that people can be like that

I am so sorry for your loss ive been there before and I think it's harder to deal with a human predator than it is an animal
Quick question tho what is Abril and a bil? Is it brother in law? And the other has me stumped lol

Bil is brother in law. I prob made a typo on the other one.

I am going to do a second round of fencing a few inches from the original one. May do a really heavy fence covered on both sides with the kind I use for my birds. Also going to re do the chicken coop for the big girls and the chicks. Thinking about using my extra round pen panels and building outer wall and inner wall using that in the middle for the big girls. When I get some. Only have 2 at the moment.

I'm not too worried about myself and bil. He seems to have a thing for hurting things that can't fight back.

Agreed. I wasn't trying to be contrary, just stating that it was my first thought when I first started reading the thread. It can be hard to find the puncture marks from a weasel. Mostly in the "wing-pits" of my chickens. I had to look very hard before I saw them. It does seem mighty suspicious that the BIL took off right afterward, and I hope that OP takes every precaution to keep herself and her family safe.
