My big lady is now 25 weeks, no eggs yet but her comb and wattle began to redden and fill out about a week and a half ago. They are HUGE. Is this normal? I'm a newbie so worried about a surprise rooster as I just had to rehome one.

Definitely a Barred Rock, or Barred Rock Cross. There's 2 fail-safe ways to tell a rooster from a hen, and that is Crowing, or an Egg. Some hens are 'late-bloomers', and eventually mature. Your 'big lady' doesn't quite have the long saddle feathers that most roosters have, and although some hens have combs and waddles, a rooster's comb on top is usually bigger and is more pointy towards the back. Roosters also tend to grow their combs and waddles much earlier as well. Sorry, not the best advice, but only nature knows the right answer. ;)
