I have wanted chickens since I was about 7 or 8, but my mom kept shooting my down. But finally (at the age of 17) she has agreed to chickens, and we just put in our order... which doesn't get here til mid-may (which is about when I get out of school. I wanna have the whole summer to spoil my chicks rotten!). This is going to be the longest month-and-a-half of my life.... oh well. I'll just spend lots of time on here looking at all of your wonderful chickens.

I have been researching my butt off. Trying to learn everything I can about chickens without actually owning any yet. (Which is a lot. This site is amazing.)
After much agonizing, I finally picked out breeds.
I got one each of:
Australorp
Buff Orpington
Delaware
BLS Wyandotte
Easter Egger.

I think it should be a nice varied little flock. Super excited! Gotta start bothering my dad now to help me build the coop.

Hang in there! It will be worth it! Seems like a nice variety though.

Yep! I had considered getting all of the same breed but then I thought "Why?" I was having enough trouble narrowing it down to ten breeds I liked, let alone one. I was actually pleasantly surprised today; I had been given a three chicken maximum but after doing a little research they decided five would be better, much to my joy.

Gotta love them! So cute, I keep interrupting posts to go out and visit my newest babies. (And so do my babies .... the human ones that SHOULD BE SLEEPING! - Go to Bed!)

Ha. My chickies don't sass .... but they do keep one crazy schedule. All the work is worth it!

While you are waiting you will have time to purchase supplies, setup your brooder, and build your coop. The time will go faster than you think.
