I just returned from the post office and only two of the seven chicks I ordered survived :( They are both eating and drinking...looking healthy and happy. Is there anything in particular that I should be watching for? Thanks.

So sorry about the loss of the chicks. Glad at least two of them made it and look like they are doing OK. I would be sure they are drinking like they should be, and have something like Save-A-Chick or sugar in the water for them if you can. Watch for pasty butt also, stressed shipped chicks like these seem to be pretty prone to it.

Thank you. They are still looking good and drinking plenty. I'll be watchful for pasty butt! I appreciate your help!

but sorry for loss.
Yes, watch for pasty butt like Kelsie said. Provide heat lamp, water (with pebbles to avoid drowning) and food.
Don't use newspaper as bedding.

Maybe you can also contact the seller and see if they could resend? 2 out of 7 seems a bit low.

Thanks Seann! They still seem to be doing well :) I spoke with the seller and they will refund or send more. I have two days to let them know so I will keep an eye on these two and make sure they continue to do well before deciding. Now I'm worried about the shipping stress and thinking maybe I should go through the local feed store here as they would not be shipping from as far away. (I didn't learn until after I ordered these chicks that my feed store orders chicks weekly through July).

Thanks again. This is my first chicken adventure since I was a kid; it was so sad opening that box this morning but I'm grateful the remaining two have each other!

If it was me. I would take a refund on the lost chicks and buy more from the local feed store. At the feed store you can observe and pick out the liveliest and healthiest looking ones.

We picked up our chicks at the post office this morning, one of ours died too :( we had 15/16 survive. I would contact the seller if I were u! Good luck with the other 2!

That seems like the smart thing to do. I'll probably go that route. Thanks!
