right i know this has been asked 1000s of times but my gold dutch bantams and red mottled leghorns are starting to come out of there eggs, i have a hovo bator incubator and im just wondering do i open the vents on top of it to let in fresh air, and how long do i leave the chicks in the incubator after coming out, there is 17egss left out of 42 only 17 were fertile

i use 48 hours as a rule of thumb and depending on the health of the hatch I will go to 72.... do NOT let any air out...NO TO THE VENTING... It will change the humidity and then any remaining pipping chicks will stick to the inside of the shells and die... so NO to the fresh air thing.

o mother of god,i forgot to ask what is probably the most important question, when and if the chicks are ok when they hatch, when do i start feeding and watering them,do i feed in the incubator, i ask this because if there a stagered hatching then ill have to open the lid to feed etceven if the rest are not out

What I do is when the chicks hatch I leave them in the bator for 24 hours or until they are completely dried then move them to the brooder with food and water. They say you can leave them in the bator for up to 48 hours without food and water but I like to get them out when they are all dry and fluffy:)

okelydoadely, this really answers my question, and hopfully im not counting b4 there hatched, but i do hear chirping and as i say the dutch bantam egg is pipped through, whooooooo hooooooooooo

so i get up this morening and i have one gold dutch bantam out,the 16 othere eggs are not even chipped yet, the little chick looks healty so far thank god, but when its fully dry will i take him out and move into brooder or leave it until there all hatched out, my thing is i dont want him to starvr od die of thirst
