******* got through the netting and attacked...but luckily, my two roos attacked the thing, and I got out there before the thing did serious damage to her.

She has a small cut on her comb, and the thing ripped off some of her back feathers, but she's OK, thank God.

She's now resting comfortably in front of my wood-burning fireplace. She let me comfort her and clean her up. She wasn't skittish at all, which Leghorns are known for.

There's just no being lax with hawks around. F'ing relentless POSs. I've had to be on my guard since I got my chickens.

I think the big question is how did it get through the netting? Was there a gap or area that allowed access? Or was it not very strong netting and the bird tore through?

This hawk was smaller than the chickens.

We had problems with large hawks in the spring and summer. They couldn't get through the net. This one did. It's the first time I ever found one IN the pen.

Thank God it was easily scared by the roosters, which allowed me time to get there and scare the hawk out of the pen.

Off to Lowe's for more twine.
