Had 2 born on the 30th, another two on the first! Still have eggs in the bator just in case they are slow learners! LOL 40% hatch for my first time, with a LG bator, and shipped Black Copper Marans eggs to boot! I'll take it!

Need help.... Due date was today but 9 hatched yesterday. Have 12 more eggs in bator. At what time do I take the first hatched out? I know they can go without food /water for a short time. How long? I don't want to open the bator till I have to,but don't want to jeopardize the health of the chicks already hatched.

Pam, Once the chicks get dry and fluffy, you can take them out of the bator and put them in the brooder. Chicks can go up to three days before they need food & water, due to the absorbtion of the yolk sac. Put them in the brooder, and give them food and water, and show them where it is. You may have to dip their beaks in the water so they know what it is. I only had 4 hatch, but the lead chick (first one born) showed the others how to do it! Good luck. Make sure to get your heat and humidity back up to where it should be for the other unhatched eggs.
