just another update for all who are following along. My last 2 "teal" eggs are as follows. The cinnamon teal egg was a quitter at about day 17-18

sad but that's artificial hatching. The second small egg that remains to be identified has externally piped!!

it makes loosing the other a little easier to take because I can't wait to see what comes out of that egg. All other large eggs are still progressing as they should. At this point candling the eggs you can see that some are getting closer to hatch time than others. The mixed bag of eggs does present that little problem towards the end. Candling has become my best guess of what may be in those particular eggs. Even the "mandarin" nest eggs are a little different in the development from egg to egg as well. Today marks day 24 of incubation. Thank you momo18clara, the serama hens that helped hatch these little cuties looked a little confused when these came out of the eggs at first. They have only ever hatched out other chicken chicks before. They however got over the "big nosed chickens" quickly and have shown them the food and water and the little family is getting along great!!!

More pics!!!!!
Got the babies out today in the sun for a little photo shoot. This is our unknown little guy/girl. (look at that bill!! Hope it grows into it)

These 2 were born about 4 days ago but I am noticing a few differences in them. (size is the first thing, but bill shape and length are another)

New baby pic all by its self

Head and Bill comparison

If I need better or different pics for identification let me know. I am beginning to wonder if they are all different types of teal? The older 2 are supposed to be cinnamon teal but the last one is an unknown??? Time will tell if they are not identified any time soon.

So out of 4 small "teal" eggs 3 hatched with a quitter on about day 17-18. 75% hatch rate so far.

The smaller one could be a green-wing or a blue wing. Great pics and thanks for the updates. It will be fun to see what they are in a couple months. Continued good luck!

Baby wood duck or Mandarine???

The first of the 9 "Mandarine" eggs to hatch!!! It was the 3rd to pip but the first to hatch. I have another egg that has been piped for over 24 hours now and it is starting to concern me (its going on 48 hours now). as of now though there are 4 others that have piped at this point. Wish me luck!!!
