I went out yesterday to check on everybody & make sure all had water because it was so hot and heard a strange cry. I looked behind the barn and there was a little goat, very miniature. I dont know where he came from and no ones been around looking for him. He was scared but wanted to come to me and was hungry& probably dieing of thirst. He ate a little bit of feed from a pan but didnt want to be touched. I opened the back gate and he run in then like a bunch of vulgers my herd attacked him. He looks healthy & was strong enough to run from them but they wore him out. I couldnt catch him and they took turns running him til he was so wore out. Finally they let up & he would ease close to them and they let him get a certain distance before they would run him off but I got to give him a lot of credit. He was persistant and won out enough to get to the edge of the barn for the night.
I dont like putting a new animal in with mine till I quarantine a while first. People drop stuff off here every week but this is my first goat. Why do people do this? I dont need a buck, I just took several to the sale. I cant just run him off or if I take him to the sale and some one says its their goat and how did I wind up with him. I am wondering what to do about him.
I took a lot of pictures this morning of all my animals and got home to find my flash card was still in my computer and none were on my camera. I'll have to try again.

We had a stray dog show up last year, certain he was dumped, also unneutered male. Checked the lost section of animal shelters and craigslist for 10 days, but no one was looking for him. The kids were in love with him and he got along with the big dog, so we decided to keep him. When I went to register him with county animal control, they said we had to list the dog as "found" on their site for two weeks before we could claim him, otherwise we'd leave ourselves open to accusations of theft. So whatever you decide to do with your little visitor, I would check in with your local animal control. Maybe they'd take him and then you wouldn't have to worry about quarantine.

Good luck!

Thanks, Its too late for quarantine but good idea on the animal shelter. Sometimes when one thinks your getting a freebie then your troubles are just beginning. I would love to know if he run away and some one is looking for their pet but if you ask around, 50 people will say its theirs. I have decided to post a lost and found on my farm supplys wall. If they can describe it to me then its theirs.
