She ain't as purty and quaint as some, but we did it all on the cheap ourselves.
My coop, which is 1/3 of my shed.
(See the window? The stump and board is there from us puzzling out a tiered exit. Chickens will eventually enter and exit via window into the soon to be attached run.)
Please excuse all the "construction" materials outside the Hen Pen haha.
And one pic of my Roo's rump. He's a bit confused about how the Hen Pen works. He insists on roosting in the rafters OVER the Hen Pen.

Suggestions for anything fun or improvement? :)

That is a plenty roomy coop!

:)
Kept worrying about space. Reality is that they free range dawn to dusk and will eventually have that covered attached run as well. Even when the incoming 16 babies join, I personally feel that they should be fine all in there. There's lots of upward space we can add roost bars for them to space out more. And that display rack, the older hens never use the top. I could halve it for a second rack.

Love the 'tree' in the christmas tree stand!!
But I'd put both of those 'trees', and the ladder, out in the run and make a poop board and beefier roost along the wall....those dowels are kind small in diameter.
Put the nests under to poop board.

He insists on roosting in the rafters OVER the Hen Pen.
I'd block however he is getting up there.

I think you’ve done a great job!

You’re going to adjust things as time goes on ... we all do... but there is one thing I thought I’d mention, and that’s the dust.

Chickens create a lot of dust... so the rest of your shed is going to get dusty...I have my coop on the side if my shed too and mine certainly gets good and dusty from the birds.... but it’s okay.

If that’s not okay for you, you might just need to lay some plastic sheet above the ceiling wire or something like that, and redo the wire wall at some point.

But the electrical outlets are another dust concern to think about ... they make special electrical boxes and plates for high dust areas for fire safety prevention... so you might check into that...

... this is likely not be a real immediate concern so don’t freak out about it... but something to look into.

It’s a really nice setup though!

:thumbsup

I like your nesting box made out of the pail. I think I may try that! I have two milk crates with a bottom insert that I am using but they keep roosting on top of it. the rounded top of the pail might discourage this. nice set up :)

We worked on the goat half of shed today. I'll post that what done.

I'll look into the electrical!

For the 5gal nest boxes, we have another currently over on goat side, use a lid to keep shavings inside. We cut the lid across a few inches, got two bucket's barriers from one lid.

Hmm, dust. We can add fans to the gables!

Plan to be adding a pop door to shove the deep litter out of twice a year. My compost pile is conveniently behind the shed.

Worried about the width of the dowels on the display rack too. They don't seem to mind and will be good for pullets! Beef them up with tape?

This will totally defeat your awesome idea and look but! How about using 2x’s held up with brackets instead of dowels? Their feet will thank you!

I’m totally running with your tree stand idea in the run! Thanks for the inspiration :wee
