Just six chickens can provide 2 dozen eggs a week!

Well, my chickens mostly lay an egg a day, some every other day, so... 6 times seven days would equal 42 eggs per week. So, 24 eggs is a pretty generous estimate. With 8 hens I get about 45 eggs a week, they're barred rock, australorp, jersey giant and sex link.

X2

Even if the chickens laid every other day, they would still produce about 24 eggs a week. In the summer time my four hens generally produce 2 dozen eggs a week.

I agree any production bird in good health and reasonably young would easily meet that minimum. Ornamentals, not so much.

X3 on that. My Black Australorps lay 5, sometimes 6 eggs per hen per week; and my Black Sex Links are egg laying machines, laying 6-7 eggs per hen per week (more than 300 eggs per hen per year).
