Hi from Kenmore Washington. I just a adopted 2 chickens on Saturday. Diana the chicken farmer said to check out BYC and I am so Thankful for that advice. I'm kinda winging it and learning as fast as I can.I spotted an ad on CL for a "Hen named Einstein, is needing a home after recovering from a dog attack and being back with flock they didn't like her anymore." The owner didn't want to eat her after everything she went through. I thought I could take her, we have a side yard that is fenced, she just need food and water and a safe spot to sleep at night. I borrowed a friends dog house and got a little hay from her too. (At night I put a piece of plywood against it tie a rope around the whole dog house and roll a large rock in front of it.)
I ended up getting two from Diana, she says Einstein would be lonely. So I have two fun chickens. I named my dark red, Lucy (Einstein) Quiche she is 3 yrs old and a production red, and my little orange chicken is named Wilma Souffle she is a red sexlink and 2 yrs old. Lucy loves to gobble down night crawlers and Wilma will eat seeds out of our hand.
So anyway I am enjoying taking care of my new chickens and looking at this site
